FULL OF NOISES returns this August for a week of residencies, performances, installations and workshops in venues across Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria. This year's festival falls into three distinct strands:
FON 2011 will take over Barrow Park on the afternoons of Friday 5th and Sat 6th August with a series of FREE interactive installations including an electronically hacked Crazy Golf Course, a floating radio station housed in a giant Swan pedalo and work by young people from schools around South Cumbria as part of Sound and Music and Creative Futures Cumbria's Audio Explorers project.
Friday 5th August will see the Bluebird Cabaret Club on Holker St. host an evening of cutting edge electronic music featuring Dopplereffekt, Boxcutter, Lone, Anchorsong, Mr Sushi, Shengi and more.
Artists in residence AGF, PHILIP JECK and TETSUO KOGAWA will be creating new work from our studio in Barrow Park to be presented at Barrow Island's St John's Church alongside performances from Tom Scott and Lee Gamble on Saturday 6th August.
FON 2011 is a project by Barrow-based arts collective Octopus. FON 2009 was our first project, bringing artists including FAUST, PRAM, RICHARD YOUNGS, JOHN WALL, HACO, SUSAN MATTHEWS, MOBILE RADIO, BLACK CARROT, FONIK and more to the Canteen on Barrow Island. Our 2010 programme was a partnership with Grizedale Arts and Lanternhouse and saw us developing projects and events with AGF, HILDUR GUDNADOTTIR, CHRIS WATSON and PAUL ROONEY. Our most recent project, FON Air, was a programme of sound works for Barrow Park’s Bandstand by MARK VERNON, PAUL ROONEY, NOISE CLUB, DAN FOX, C97, MARY STARK and ELLIE CHANEY. Octopus’ programme of events and residencies for 2012-2015 will be developed with funding from Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisation grant scheme.
OCTOPUS is: John Hall, Glenn Boulter, Andrew Deakin, Fern Oxley and Alex Oxley.
